Conservation or Reclamation?
There is no doubt that a large portion of Christianity consists of efforts to “reclaim” that which has been lost. We train our children, and encourage them to become Christians “someday.” Although reclamation is indeed a part of our work, let us not lose sight of “conservation.” Rather than looking to Cain, that required efforts of reclamation, let us look to Enoch who “was translated that he should not see death; and he was not found, because God translated him: for he hath had witness borne to him that before his translation, he had been well-pleasing unto God” (Hebrews11:5): Enoch “walked with God” (Genesis 5:21). The time for reclamation will ultimately come, "for all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23). However, to anxiously await the day when those who should have never gone astray are the subjects of reclamation, do we not command it to be done?
